Doctor Who: A Christmas Carol

Doctor Who: A Christmas Carol written by Stephen Moffat Christmas Special 2010…

I must say that this is the hardest review I ever had to write, hence why it’s taken me so damn long to review it. I’ve watched it about 4 times by now and I still see the ups and downs of it. Of a stand alone episode it’s amazing. But, as a Doctor Who episode I’m torn.

All of the “paradox rules” made to make Doctor Who make some sort of sense, at least to give us nerds some rules on why things happen/can’t happen in the story lines- were all broken. That makes my nerd heart ache. Biggest problem here:

If Kazran Sardick as a young boy was standing there with Kazran Sardick (himself) as a old man- this would have changed everything that had to do with all those Christmas Eve’s spent with Abigail. Meaning young Kazran would already know of the illness she had and may or may not have ever let her out. Plus, the whole scene when she told him would never have happened- grr time travel.

Over-all this episode made me smile. I loved the lack of Amy. I do enjoy her but Amy-heavy episodes over shine the Doctor and that’s a no-no in my book.

As a stand alone, forgetting the whole plot of Doctor Who, it’s great and should be watched, but in my opinion they should really stop making Christmas episodes (although it does give me something to do on Christmas).

Best line was the Doctor’s first line…

The Doctor: ”Sorry, Christmas Eve on a rooftop, saw a chimney, my whole brain went “What the hell!”

There were many GREAT lines in that story which is why I think so many loved it.

The Doctor: “I bet I get some very interesting readings from my screwdriver when I get it back from the shark in your bedroom.”

Young Karzan: “There’s a shark in my bedroom!?!”

The Doctor: ”Oh fine, focus on that!”

Young Karzan: ”It’s going to eat us!”

The Doctor: ”Well, maybe we’re going to eat it, but I don’t like the odds!”

Another:

The Doctor: “Big flashy lighty things have gotten me written all over them. Not Actually. Give me time. And a crayon.”

Amy and Rory had a short part but these lines were great,

Amy: “Are you lying?”

The Doctor: “Yes I am.”

Amy: “Don’t treat me like an idiot.”

Rory: “Is he lying?”

Amy: “No No.”

This maybe the worst review I’ve ever written but I don’t want it to be a complete nerd rant on why everything that happened couldn’t have and why Doctor Who is ruined, because this was a very good one, if you don’t focus on all the continuity issues.  I can’t wait for next season!
